Hyaluronic Acid isn’t a miracle– but it does something.
Has anyone here even felt personally attacked by Regina George how every product claims to have hyaluronic acid?
It’s basically a really smart hydrator when used the right way.
Albeit called an acid, it’s not exfoliating nor harsh.
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant– a molecule that attracts and holds water. It can bind up to 1,000 times its weight in water.
That being said, hyaluronic acid molecules draw moisture from either the air or from deeper layers of the skin.
When humidity is high, it helps your skin stay dewy.
BUT, in dry climates, like Colorado, for example, it can actually pull water out of your skin if not sealed properly.
So, so, so. How to use it properly?
Apply to damp skin (not dry)
Seal with a moisturizer right after
Use it once or twice daily as a part of the hydration portion of your skincare routine
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER SKIP THE MOISTURIZER! Please, don’t. Just don’t.
TL;DR
Hyaluronic acid is not the hero we have been waiting for– but it can make other things work better e.g. it helps other ingredients shine, keeps your skin’s barrier happy, and gives that healthy, dewy finish many of us desire.
